THE BRIEF
One residence, made from two.
A European client with a long connection to Miami Beach wanted a winter home on the water: a place to spend the colder months, host family, and wake up overlooking the Atlantic. Two adjacent apartments on the building's north side came up at the same time, and the client bought both.
The studio was brought in more than a year into the architect's work, following a previous designer. The interior plans already in place had been drawn with little coordination with the architecture, and the studio's first presentation offered a clear alternative. The client set the earlier scheme aside, and the studio rebuilt the interior design almost entirely from scratch, this time in step with the architect's drawings.
THE APPROACH
Designed as one home from the studs out.
Rather than renovating two units, the studio treated the combined space as a single residence. Walls came down and were reconfigured into one circulation path across the north side of the floor, and the custom millwork was drawn as continuous architecture from room to room, with lighting, technology, and storage built in rather than added afterward.
The material palette carries the floor plan. Fluted maple lines the perimeter walls, three-dimensional textured fabric wallcoverings mark the transitions between rooms, honed travertine runs through the floors and counters, and Italian walnut built-ins anchor the living spaces. Bronze-toned brass hardware and lighting, along with Italian furnishings sourced through the studio's trade relationships, finish the rooms.

The finished residence reads as one oceanfront home, with nothing to show where the two apartments once divided. The client now has a Miami Beach base for the winter months, with room to host family and a single, continuous floor plan overlooking the Atlantic.
